The Capitalist Investor - Episode 176

Welcome Back! This week on The Capitalist Investor, hosts Three Take D and Tony the Tiger along with Cool Hand Luke discuss everything from the Debt Ceiling to Artificial Intelligence possibly turning the world into a socialistic system. What’s in store for smaller regional banks with mortgages and commercial real estate? Everyone seems to have a different take, so tune on in!

U.S. Government Default?

Janet Yellen said June 1st is when the United States runs out of money if we don’t raise the debt ceiling. The interesting thing this time around is credit default swaps on U.S. treasuries is the highest it’s been in a long time, suggesting this time, we actually have a higher chance of defaulting on the debt.

But the solution is usually just to raise the ceiling, print more money, and keep on spending. Plus, no political party wants to take the blame for defaulting on America’s debt, which could have ripple effects and a large impact on the world and investments. That costs votes. What’s going to happen this time around?

AI & Socialism

You can’t go a day without artificial intelligence being in the news. But all of the buzz might not all be a good buzz. The capitalist investor team has differing opinions on the impact AI will have and what the future might have in store. Is some sort of Socialistic Utopia coming like H.G. Wells predicted in The Time Machine?

Will Artificial Intelligence replace jobs and create new jobs as technology has done for decades? Or is this time different? Artificial Intelligence can make things more efficient and spark innovation. But does it need to be controlled & regulated? Capitalism is about productivity and innovation by people, but when people aren’t productive and aren’t innovating, how do we progress as a society?
